Pelvic Pain

Pain can really get in the way of doing what we want to, of feeling alive and connected to the present, of being at home in our beautiful bodies. Pelvic pain just means that your problem is in the the area of your pelvis (who knew!). Women’s Health Physiotherapy might offer you some answers and solutions.

Pelvic Pain symptoms can be:

  • Sore hips, groin, sacroiliac joints, tailbone or pubic bone

  • Pain that seems to start somewhere in the pelvis but radiates out to buttocks, groin, hips, legs, lower or upper back

  • Very tight pelvic floor muscles, making it painful to attempt using tampons or have penetrative sex

  • Hypersensitive skin around the vulva, labia, or inside the vagina to the point of being painful or very unpleasant with certain types of stimuli

Sometimes pain itself has become the problem, or there may be an underlying process at work (like endometriosis, rheumatoid arthritis, skin conditions, or post-operative complications).

The pelvis is a ‘crossroads’ for so many muscles, connective tissues, nerves, lymphatic and blood vessels. A multi-modal treatment plan for pelvic pain has been proven to have better outcomes, and it’s critical to work with practitioners with experience in managing complex conditions.

Claire has worked with many women experiencing acute and chronic pelvic pain states, in Australia and the UK, on hospital wards and private clinics. With respect for your understanding of what works for your own body, Claire is able to offer a variety of evidence-based therapies that work on the whole nervous system. Her goal is to empower you with skills and knowledge, to help you reconnect with the adaptive powers of your amazing body.
