Integrative Physio - what’s that??

At LUNA, we take a 'Yes, And’ approach to healing and wholeness.

Integrative Physiotherapy means that we focus on individual patient care.  We seek to combine the best of conventional Western medicine with evidence-based complementary medicine and therapies.

From the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association:

“Integrative Medicine reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, health care professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.

It takes into account the physical, psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing of the person with the aim of using the most appropriate, safe and evidence-based treatments available.”

During your physiotherapy treatment time at LUNA, we will sometimes reach for ‘mainstream’ physiotherapy techniques. At other times, when it seems to serve better and is reflective of your personal preference, we could use elements from more holistic or non-Western healing traditions. More often than not, we do both! ‘Yes, And…’ rather than ‘Yes, But.’

Often we are reaching for advice from other integrative health practitioners, from disciplines such as Functional General Practice, Clinical Naturopathy, Holistic Nutrition, Massage, Acupuncture, Kinesiology, Holistic Psychotherapy and others, to support you to move towards your goals for therapy. We are lucky to have the on-site support of several talented professionals at LUNA already.

We are also willing and able to work alongside the conventional specialist branches of Western medicine, whether that is with your specialist doctor, psychiatrist, or other healthcare team members.

Our energy goes not only into the one-on-one clinical services at LUNA, but also towards helping to hold a space of community and connection for women and families. Healing is a collective act, and through our own individual healing we are able to better serve and heal our communities and our earth.

We will always seek to put you as an individual - influenced by your singular blend of health history, movement, emotions, social context, and beliefs - at the heart of treatment choices.
